How Did You Guys Meet?

Maeve and I first met just after finishing our third year at the University of Georgia. Almost everyone had already left town for summer, but a mutual friend convinced each of us to stay and go out one night so we could be introduced. We met out on the town and spent the rest of the night talking over drinks and pizza. Soon after, we parted ways to return home for the summer, and as Maeve likes to point out, I never called her. However, things quickly picked back up when we returned in the fall, and we formally went on our first date.

What First Attracted You To The Other?

I was instantly attracted to Maeve’s intelligence and drive, but was equally struck by how down to earth and engaging she was.

I thought Matt looked adorable in his glasses, and was impressed by his mature demeanor. The passion and drive with which he approached life attracted me even more.

Why Did You Choose This Location To Proposal?

DC has always been a special place to both Maeve and I; so I knew I wanted to do it in town. I knew Meridian Hill Park would be beautiful and provide some privacy- both things I wanted for our engagement. We actually do go on picnics from time to time, so I knew using it as a cover wouldn’t arouse any suspicion!

Point Dume

Located at the edge of the Malibu Canyon, Point Dume offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean below.  The brief hike from the beach to the summit of the cliff is well worth it:  on one side, there’s a field of wild, blooming yellow daisies, and to the other, a hidden cove only viewable from the outlook point.  Point Dume is also known as the perfect spot to catch a glimpse of whales and dolphins– so they may make a surprise appearance at your engagement!  Stop by the Sunset Restaurant and Bar for cocktails with a view, either before or after you pop the question.  Or, if you’d rather have your entire proposal take place outdoors, arrange for a picnic blanket with a dozen roses and your favorite champagne to be waiting for the two of you either on the shore or at the summit.

Leo Carillo

The waves here make it a favorite for surfers, but it’s the incredible rock formations that make this beach perfect for surprise engagement photography.  Whether the two of you have plans to camp nearby, or are visiting for a stroll on the scenic shores, this location is a star proposal spot.

Surfrider Beach

If the two of you are all about sun, sand and surf, this could be the perfect spot for you.  The shoreline itself is small, but there is a pier nearby and surfers always riding the waves.  Before or after you pop the question, perhaps arrange for a tour (and incredible photography!) at the nearby historic Adamson House and Malibu Lagoon Museum.  The April through October, the National Park’s beachfront grounds are open for bookings and special events.

Santa Monica State Beach

This is the perfect location for anyone visiting from out of town.  Miles of sand and coastline stretch in either direction, and iconic little blue Lifeguard stations dot the panoramic view.  But the best part about this stretch of beach is its proximity to downtown Santa Monica.  Have a world-class dinner at the Third Street Promenade before wandering down to the Santa Monica Pier to propose, like Nathan did!

Venice Beach

This iconic beach’s funky charm draws crowds from all over the country!  This beach draws its name from the manmade canals that surround the shorefront, constructed in 1905 to imitate the Italian city of the same name.  It serves as the backdrop for countless movies and music videos– so why not your proposal as well?  Rent some rollerblades and skate down the colorful walkway to take in the street art and interesting store fronts, pausing at the point of your choosing to pop the question!

Paradise Cove

This Malibu gem is nestled into a cozy cove and lined by palm trees.   Home to the Paradise Cove Cafe, this stretch of shore has lounge chairs set up right on the beach– so you can sip a cocktail with your toes in the sand.  Malibu locals frequent the quaint hang out, which means that celeb sightings are not uncommon.  Give your special someone the star treatment by surprising them with a proposal as the sun sets over the Pacific.

El Matador

Another beach notable for its incredible caves and rock formations, this quiet beach is located at the end of a long dirt road.  Be prepared to walk down a set of stairs, and to take in the incredible views!  Once you’ve reached a quiet section of shore, drop down to one knee and pop the question before walking through incredible rock formations for a stunning engagement shoot!

How They Met:

Patrick and Gabriella met while both attending the University of Rhode Island. With a large group of mutual friends in common, the two clicked from the start and quickly realized how much they shared in common.

How They Knew They Had Met “The One”

Gabriella first realized Patrick was the one when once they began talking about the future and what each wanted. Their wants, hopes and dreams, however far-fetched or silly, were almost identical. She also loved how much fun they would have on the simplest of dates. As he stood by and supporting her during her most vulnerable times, it only strengthened the feeling that she had found the man she was destined to be with!

Patrick’s revelation came after the first year they started dating. He admitted, that before they met he seemed to lack motivation and direction in his life. However, as their relationship progressed and started to blossom, he suddenly found himself working harder than he ever has. The more he did so, the more Gabriella supported and pushed him. When he realized she was just as caring and supportive when he would fall, he knew this was the woman he wished to spend the rest of his life with.

Why Did You Choose This Location To Propose?

We chose New York because it has always been an important place to both of us. We visit often, and have always talked about how much we would love to someday live here. As it turns out, we both had privately dreamt about someday being a part of this city before we even met! The Brooklyn Heights Promenade was a perfect spot to propose as it provides a stunning view of the city, a place close to both of our hearts. Getting engaged somewhere so special to both of us really felt right.

Lili and Mike’s proposal story is modern-meets-classic romance.  It began with a dating app and grew with love letters.  The most recent chapter: this stunning sunset rooftop proposal in the Meatpacking District‘s Maritime Hotel Penthouse Terrace Suite.

Tea light candles and a path of rose petals added to the room’s already magical atmosphere.  When Lili got to the room, Mike was waiting for her.  He knelt down on one knee, presented Lili with an absolutely stunning ring from Rubin Trading— and she said yes!

A little over a year ago, Mike and Lili were matched up on a dating app that connected people based on mutual friendships, and immediately struck up an engaging conversation.

Lili asked their mutual friend about Mike, and was advised that he was a great guy and that she should take their relationship to the next level–by meeting with him face to face.

Mike remembers everything about their first date, down to the day, date and location: March 23, 2014, at Crave Fish Bar on 2nd Avenue.  Lili said Mike’s striking blue eyes and kind nature had her falling immediately.  Mike was instantly attracted to her beauty and the way in which she carried herself.

“She presented herself with a refined elegance and just seemed so well put-together,” he said.   “She was very driven in life and with her career.  She had an amazing smile and seemed to have a very kind heart.  She is the total package and everything just felt very natural with us from the start.”

While they didn’t necessarily know right away that they had both found The One, the pivotal moment that let both of them know that their strong connection was growing into a long and lasting love was an epic, month-long trip to Europe for a friends’ wedding that Lili had planned long before meeting Mike.

Shortly before the trip, their relationship had just become “official,” which had them both wondering: would they be missing each other like crazy, or would the spark fizzle out while Lili travelled abroad?

Before leaving, it already seemed like things were becoming more serious. Lili and Mike surprised each other with gifts, and exchanged letters– one to open for each day they were apart from each other.

They said the trip seemed like an eternity for them both.  By the time it was over they were overjoyed to be reunited.

“I’ve never been so happy to see someone as I was when she turned the corner walking out of that airport terminal!” Said Mike, recalling the day she returned.

As their relationship grew, Mike knew he had to plan something as perfect as their love to ask Lili for her hand in marriage.  He settled for the night of Lili’s birthday for the big surprise and set about making it a truly memorable event. He hired professional hair and make up artists from GlamSquad to arrive at Lili’s apartment that afternoon to get her and her two friends dolled up for what Lili thought was just a special celebration. Meanwhile, he and his sister Kellie decorated the room.  He contacted Tao Downtown to deliver a beautiful dinner straight to the rooftop suite, and made reservations at the nearby restaurant Revel, where Lili’s friends and the couple’s immediate family members would join up with the two of them afterwards for a birthday celebration turned mini-engagement party.

It was a lot of work, and not much time, but the evening was perfect– and Paparazzi Proposals captured every moment!

Back in March, Paparazzi Proposals caught the moment when Rahim knelt down on one knee in front of the iconic Central Park fountain and asked Ria for her hand in marriage.  They were so happy with their proposal pics that they invited us back for an encore– this time to shoot their engagement photos!

The joyful couple further documented their New York City love story by choosing the Flatiron building as the backdrop for their engagement photos.

Balloons and bubbles were the name of the game in this playful shoot in Midtown, Manhattan. As the shoot progressed, the two traded in a bouquet of colorful balloons for a bubble gun, and finally an “&” sign to hint at their future titles– Mr. & Mrs.!

Romance was definitely in the air as Rahim spun his fiancée into a retro-style dip.   The couple laughed and embraced as they hailed a cab and made their way to the east side waterfront, one of Ria’s favorite running spots, to continue taking photos.

Chris hit a home run with this classic, romantic proposal. After taking a stroll through the park, they came upon a picnic blanket complete with flowers, food and champagne. As they sat down to enjoy themselves, Jenna had no idea this wasn’t the only surprise he had up his sleeve. As he began to tell her how much she meant to him, he got onto one knee, pulled out a gorgeous ring and proposed! After the shock wore off, she said “YES!”

However, those weren’t the only surprises. For Andrew, it was after his mom passed. Denikka was there for him every step of the way, comforting him and supporting him. For Denikka, it was when they first parted ways heading off to college. As her heart ached to be away from his side, she knew she had found “the one.”

Their love story was a classic one, having been high school sweethearts. Their personalities were a perfect match. Both very outgoing and outspoken, they just so happened to be voted “Mr. and Mrs. Witty” by their high school class. So years later, when Andrew began planning his proposal, he wanted to be sure it was as special as their relationship.

When poor weather caused his original plan of proposing on a helicopter ride to fall through, he quickly came up with another romantic proposal idea. So as they calmly glided along the canal, Andrew reached in his pocket and pulled out an amazing ring from Zales, and asked Denikka if she would spend the rest of her life with him. So Shawn thought long and hard about how to make his proposal creative and something that Sanna would not soon forget.

Knowing Sanna loved going to the aquarium, a place she knew he wasn’t necessarily crazy about, Shawn knew this would make for the perfect setting in which to completely surprise her with his proposal.

As he trudged along in the aquarium, Sanna definitely had NO idea of what was about to come! Before we show you their enchanting engagement moment at Chicago’s iconic Shedd Aquarium, here’s a bit of their love story…

They were first introduced by Shawn’s cousin, who just so happens to also be Sanna’s best friend, on Facebook. Now that’s what we call modern romance! From that moment on, Shawn ardently pursued Sanna, and their Facebook flirting slowly shifted to texting and talking on the phone. A month later, they went on their first date. Shawn was instantly smitten with how beautiful and charming she was. Sunna loved how smart and funny he was. The rest, as they say, is history!

After several months of dating, Sanna privately thought she had finally found “the one.” Meanwhile, Shawn had already bought the domain for their wedding website and began engagement ring shopping!

Sanna’s love of the aquarium wasn’t Shawn’s only reason for picking it as the place where he’d pop the question. He also knew it had an amazing view of downtown Chicago, which would make for the perfect backdrop for his proposal photographs, secretly taken by Paparazzi Proposals! A mutual friend introduced them, and they became good friends over the course of the next year. Spencer, who says he is often reluctant to trust people, felt instantly at ease with Mackenzie, and Mackenzie admired the time and effort Spencer put into building their friendship.

In January of 2014, Mackenzie returned to college in another state, but the two kept in touch. Spencer soon came to visit, and by the end of the trip they both agreed that their relationship had grown from a solid friendship into a true romance.

Love was stronger than distance–1300 miles, to be exact– and the two continued to date over the next year. Their relationship blossomed, and they fell deeply in love.

Spencer, who had stuck to an organized plan for his life up until this point, began to notice a shift in his outlook.

“I was willing to forget about my plans, because I would rather have her than continue my plans without her,” he said.

Mackenzie began to consider the possibility of quitting school and moving back to Texas in order to be together, because she knew she wouldn’t be happy without him in her life.

The two discussed marriage and a future together. Mackenzie knew that Spencer would be proposing soon, but he wanted to make sure the experience surprised her with how romantic and thoughtful it was.

After reviewing several Dallas proposal ideas, Spencer felt a romantic gondola ride would make for the perfect proposal.

With some help from our friends at Gondola Adventures, he was able to transform Dallas into Venice for their big moment.  He kept it a secret because he wanted it to be a special event that he and Mackenzie could share and remember forever.
