1. Berkley Riverfront Park

Joel invited his girlfriend on a romantic stroll in Berkley Riverfront Park in Kansas City. Using the scenic views of the water and bridge, he got down on one knee.

2. Private Lakeside in Connecticut

Oliver surprised his girlfriend with a diamond ring in front of their lake pier. Her parents had front row seats to this heartwarming moment!

3. Cherry Hill in Central Park with Perfect Picnic

Working with Perfect Picnic, we arranged a romantic picnic at Cherry Hill for Jeff and his girlfriend. Surprised by the setup, she turned around to find Jeff with a diamond ring!

4. Chicago Riverwalk

The Chicago Riverwalk offers gorgeous views of the skyline and water, which is why Lance used it as the backdrop for his engagement.

5. Santa Monica Boardwalk

On their way to dinner, Eric suggested to take a walk on the boardwalk by the beach. Little did his girlfriend know that it would be the picture-perfect backdrop to his proposal.

After shooting thousands of proposals nationwide, it’s amazing to still discover new places. Though not all of these places are new, even familiar locations offer spots we might have not shot at before.

Coordinating with all our photographers, we secretly followed our couples on their romantic journeys, leading to the moment one of them got down on one knee.

While both scenarios are understandable, it’s important to remember that instead of trying to picture what a proposal should look like, it’s more important to think about the end goal, the moment your partner says “Yes!” So, forget what’s on the movies, what people you know have done, and all the other preconceived notions. Just think about what’s important to your partner and what you know based off experience. To give you some ideas, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite romantic ways to propose from real proposals by real people, that we’ve had the pleasure of capturing.

1. Add a Musician

Paul wanted to serenade his way into Kelsey’s heart and arranged for a guitarist to take on the disguise of a street performer. Upon suggesting to take a stroll through Centennial Park in Nashville, Paul and Kelsey encountered the guitarist, who coincidently started playing songs with special meanings to them. Filled with delight, Kelsey was distracted by the musician, which gave Paul the perfect moment to get down on one knee and surprise her with a diamond ring.

2. Make it a Trip

Make your proposal last an entire weekend and plan a romantic weekend getaway. Josh planned an exciting trip to Las Vegas with Melissa, and coordinated with our photographer to plan the picture-perfect moment for him to get down on one knee. The Bellagio Fountain show illuminated Josh’s proposal, and Melissa couldn’t hold back the tears of pure happiness.

3. Add Some Thrill

An engagement proposal doesn’t have to just consist of a romantic dinner or 24 roses. If an adventure or thrill are more of your partner’s thing, how about an exciting helicopter ride? That’s exactly how Olufemi surprised his partner with a diamond ring, right before boarding a helicopter to tour the stunning Miami skyline.

4. Simple Can Be Romantic

In a world filled with too many complications that we have no control over, why do we feel that for something to be great, it has to be complicated? Nuno disagreed, and chose a calming and picturesque beach for his proposal to Becky in San Diego. He set up a heartwarming backyard-like setting covered in roses and memorabilia from their relationship, and when Becky thought the day couldn’t get any better, he asked her to marry him!

5. Include Friends and Family

Devin wanted to throw in some familiar faces into his proposal to Ashley and coordinated with all of their family and friends. He planned for all them to be discreetly hidden nearby the proposal location in New York City, and after Ashley screamed “YES!”, they came out of hiding and joined in the celebration.

With the end of the summer heat and start of the nice fall breeze, a proposal at a park is the perfect idea. Add some romance with a delicious picnic with all of your partner’s favorite foods, roses and, of course, champagne! From the beach to your backyard, a picnic works anywhere outdoors and there’s plenty of picture-perfect locations for your engagement. This might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you want to include all of your family and friends, what better time to propose than during Thanksgiving? Plan it a day before or after if you don’t want to directly do it on the day off. However, it will be the perfect time because all of your family and friends will be visiting. Surprise your partner with a post-proposal celebration afterwards!

3. Romantic Getaway Proposal

With the perfect weather, fall is a wonderful time to plan a weekend getaway. And what could make a weekend getaway more memorable? You guessed it- your proposal! Whether going to the country or visiting your partner’s dream city, plan a romantic evening that will end with a diamond ring and a big YES!

4. Rooftop Proposal

With perfect sweater weather, why not get a perfect view? A rooftop is one of our favorite places to get engaged, as there are few things more romantic than a city skyline during a sunset. And the pictures are bound to be picture-perfect- we’ll make sure of it. Amp up the party by planning for friends and family to join afterwards, or ante on the romance with an intimate dinner, already set up prior to your partner getting there.

5. Gondola Proposal

Before the cold of winter, why not enjoy a relaxing gondola ride? Most gondola companies will allow you to enjoy delicious food and champagne (either providing it or letting you bring your own). While cruising through a romantic ride alone the water, reflect on your best memories and all the reasons why you love your partner. At the picture-perfect moment, take out the diamond ring, or even better, schedule to have a message in bottle floating along the water with your proposal!
