How They Met:

Rob and Steph met on July 20, 2012 at a mutual friend’s birthday cruise of the New York City harbor, featuring the musical stylings of Billy Joel cover band Big Shot.

Though their stories differ slightly, they both agree that after Steph asked their mutual friend who on the cruise was single, he turned around and pointed out Rob and quickly introduced the pair. They immediately hit it off, bonding over a shared love of Billy Joel and spending the rest of the night talking, laughing, singing and dancing together. As the evening was coming to a close, Rob snapped a great photo of the New York City skyline and smoothly asked “What’s your phone number?  I’ll send it to you.”

Rob was drawn in by her fun personality and how easily they got along, and Steph was equally impressed by his rendition of “We Didn’t Start The Fire” and the smooth way he got her phone number, which she says she still can’t believe she fell for!  And what about the photo that started it all?

“That picture is now framed in our apartment, and makes for a great conversation, as well as a milestone of when we met!”  Rob revealed.

How They Knew:

They both knew they had found The One when Hurricane Sandy hit in October of that year.  Both of their apartments had no power, so they waited out the storm at Rob’s place.

“We spent five consecutive days together with no technology or hot water,” said Rob.  “Our only entertainment was each other and a bottle of red wine.  If we could get through those crazy few days together and still want to see each other, we felt pretty good about moving forward!” 

Planning the Perfect New York Scavenger Hunt Surprise Proposal:

Fast forward three years later, and Rob was thinking of how he could incorporate all the memories of the times they shared together into one incredible marriage proposal.  He decided an NYC scavenger hunt proposal would be the perfect way to pop the question.  He contacted Paparazzi Proposals to discuss his New York scavenger hunt surprise proposal idea, and we helped him work out the logistics and to make sure the whole day was beautifully documented with secret proposal photography!

Steph reads the first clue after leaving their apartment. She had no idea that our photographer was discreetly capturing the whole scavenger hunt!

Once he drafted up his proposal plan, he ran it past Steph’s mom, to make sure it included everything she’d want in a dream engagement (how sweet!).  Then, he reached out to her boss and arranged for her to have the day off work.  On Friday morning, she woke up to a clue directing her to their favorite breakfast spot, a neighborhood bagel cafe.  Our sneaky snapper trailed her paparazzi-style to capture her heading to each location on the treasure hunt!

Once there, she received her second clue.  The clues lead her through their favorite date spots, and places where they celebrated milestones in their relationship.

Rob knew she’d want to be glammed up for her engagement photos, so he incorporated a mani-pedi, a professional makeup artist and a blowout at Dry Bar into the scavenger hunt!

A black car picked Steph up from the salon and whisked her to the West Side Highway, at Circle 84, right near Circle Cruise Lines— the cruise where they first met.

As she walked towards him, he dropped to one knee and pulled a velvet box from his back pocket, opening it to reveal a sparkling engagement ring from Diamond Castle.  Completely overjoyed, Steph said, “Yes!!!”

And the surprises didn’t stop there! Rob had invited all of their friends and family to wait nearby at Landsdowne Road, the bar where they had shared their first date, for an impromptu engagement party!  Rob rented our New York wedding proposal photographer with our special proposal photography package and was able to capture the whole incredible day with stunning professional photography.

Tina didn’t suspect anything out of the ordinary, since the Park was one of their favorite date spots.  After a leisurely stroll to Bow Bridge, they stumbled across a gorgeous picnic spread where Cecil popped the question!

We caught up with Tina and Cecil to hear the story behind this beautiful fall marriage proposal!

How did you two meet?

Cecil: It all started in July 2014 with the Facebook message  “Are you a Star Wars fan?”

We had many mutual friends and her Yoda cover photo stuck out to me! I was immediately interested. We were both originally from New York but living in different parts of California at the time. After months of messaging we finally met in New York while visiting family for the Christmas holiday. We decided to meet for coffee at Starbucks.

It was love at first sight for me.  I found myself completely enticed by her as the hour flew by too quickly. I was initially attracted to Tina’s beauty and gorgeous smile. What I really liked about her was that she was a programmer and I knew we would have a lot in common.

When did you know that they were the one?

Cecil:

Her sweet personality, her natural loving and caring instincts had always made me feel special. I knew she was the one the first time she wanted to make dinner for me on May 22nd 2015. We stayed in her apartment and had a dinner and painting night. I had never really painted before but it turned out to be more fun than I thought. It was a simple, fun, laid back Friday night that made me realize I could see myself spending the rest of my life with this woman.

Tina:

I knew right away he was very special to me. Our values and goals aligned perfectly.  There hasn’t been a single day he hasn’t FaceTimed with me! A couple of hours of Facetime always felt like a couple of minutes for me. He always made me feel attractive, special, and I noticed that I started wearing a big smile on my face for no apparent reason.

  I knew I couldn’t pass on this one!

Why did you choose to propose where you did?

We both enjoy the outdoors and had come a couple times to the park on dates so I knew Central Park would be a great place to propose. I had suggestions from friends but I liked the picnic proposal idea better after seeing Paparazzi Proposals’ picnic proposal package on the website, and knew it was the perfect option!

Of course, our photographer discreetly snapped away as Cecil dropped to one knee and presented her with a stunning engagement ring from Vincente Jewelers!  After the initial shock wore off, Cecil introduced our photographer, who joined them for an incredible engagement shoot!

He led Angie from one incredible gesture to the next, starting with a gorgeous skyline helicopter ride to see the greatest city in the world from a bird’s eye view, followed by a trip to the top of the Trade Center.

After running back to where they were staying at the Essex Hotel, he told her he had a special lunch planned.  They headed outside, where he told her to pick a horse and buggy for a ride to where he had a Perfect Picnic arranged to have set up for them, and the ultimate surprise in store: his romantic marriage proposal!

How They Met:

Marc and his fiancé met on match.com and after chatting for a while online, they made plans to meet up in person and see if the initial chemistry translated into something more!

Something told Marc that Angie was special, and he wanted to meet with her right away, but he was leaving for a trip to Cuba. So he asked her out to dinner in advance and as soon as he got back the couple met up for the first time on February 5th, a date Marc has memorized!

Conversation was easy over dinner. They had a similar sense of humor and outlook on life, and the back and forth banter they had online was even better than expected. Marc loved that Angie was so interested in hearing about his trip and looking through the photos he took while he was away, and she was intrigued by his passion for life. After their date, they sat in his car by the beach in their home city of Boca Raton, Florida, watching the waves roll in and feeling relaxed and happy in each other’s company. It was the evening of his 50th birthday, and when the clock struck midnight he got the best gift he could have asked for— a kiss from his future wife!

How They Knew

Marc knew that he had met someone truly unique.

He had never been this intrigued by someone he just met, and he wasted no time— asking her out on a second date while they were still on their first.

The couple says they knew almost immediately that they had found The One. Their initial feelings only grew as they spent more time together!

The Proposal

Marc wanted to propose, and an invitation to New Jersey for a Bar Mitzvah presented the perfect opportunity.

He planned for a few extra days for them to stay in New York, and set about coming up with his full day, absolutely incredible proposal plan.

After giving Angie a romantic card in the horse and carriage promising he would make all her dreams come true, the pair stepped out onto Cherry Hill in Central Park. When they walked up to the picnic, she was surprised by the thoughtful gesture and stood in the picture-perfect spot for our photographer to capture her reaction— Marc knew it was the perfect moment, and popped the question with a gorgeous engagement ring from Diamonds East International in Boca Raton, Florida.

Her answer: a resounding, “Yes!” Through laughter and tears of joy.

The pair paused for a champagne toast before Marc introduced our photographer, who joined them for a gorgeous post-proposal portrait session.

And to top off an incredible proposal day, “We had 8th row center seats to Jersey Boys!” Said Marc, adding, “and I got her a great take-home token from the show: her own real live Jersey Boy, me!”
