How and when did you guys meet? Nashel: We met in Denver in 2019 while I was in pharmacy school, and he was doing his pharmacy residency at the University of CO. Our paths crossed at the hospital where I was doing my clinical rotations. One day, he asked me to grab drinks after work at this local Tavern, and from then on, it was all history! We hit it off right away!

What was the first thing that attracted you to one another? Our senses of humor is what really attracted us to each other. We laughed and goofed around, feeling instantly comfortable and at ease in each other’s company. He was incredibly sweet and attentive, making each date feel extra special.

When did you know that they were the one? Our third date was an unforgettable weekend getaway to Steamboat Springs, even though we found ourselves in the middle of a massive storm! It turned out to be the most romantic weekend, and that’s when we truly began to fall in love with each other. One night, while at the Hot Springs, surrounded by snow and darkness, we had an experience we’ll cherish forever! Thanks to the snowstorm, what was meant to be a 3-hour drive turned into an 8-hour adventure, but surprisingly, we had the best time together, even in traffic! After that weekend, we spent countless days together relaxing, going out, traveling, and we never stopped having fun in each other’s company.

Why did you choose to propose where you did? Nashel: Back in 2019, I took him to my hometown, San Francisco, where I wanted to share a beautiful view of the bridge. So, we headed to Baker Beach. And guess what? A little over four years later, he actually proposed to me at the same beach! He knows how much the Bay Area means to me, and I’m obsessed with the Golden Gate Bridge, so it was the perfect spot for the proposal. The funny thing is, classic SF weather, it was all foggy during the proposal, and we couldn’t even see the bridge!

Did anyone help you plan the proposal?

JT: She is very close with her family so her parents helped pull the surprise proposal off in addition to some of her closest friends. They lured her to the beach under the disguise of taking some pre-dinner pics, but as she strolled along, she spotted the “Marry Me” sign, and boy, was she blown away! It was such an incredible and unexpected surprise!  After the proposal on the beach, there was another surprise waiting for her at home, where her parents set up an engagement party and we ended the night at my favourite restaurant RH Rooftop in Marin.

Is there a story to the ring? Nashel: The ring is a family heirloom from his grandmother who is no longer with us. The ring wasn’t changed at all (except it was resized to fit me). And funny enough the ring is exactly what I wanted but even better since it has a beautiful history to it.

Steven wanted to take advantage of all the scenery at the Japanese Gardens and use it as the backdrop to his big kneeling moment.
