However, it wasn’t until he moved back to Texas that that the two became serious. As an anniversary approached, he decided he wanted to surprise her by proposing. So he reached out to Paparazzi Proposals for some great proposal ideas.

Knowing he wanted a great view to serve as a backdrop for his perfect proposal, and a little help from the staff of the Resort at Pelican Hill, Newport CA, a “private tour” of the resort was scheduled. As the sun began to set, their tour concluded on a private terrace which had been closed off for them. Anand slowly got down on his knee, pulled out a stunning engagement ring from Robbins Brothers, and popped the question. The pictures can tell you the story. Spoiler alert…she said “YES!”

Antonio needed the perfect setting for his proposal, so he went to the best Gondola company in America.

Our friends at Gondola Adventures and booked a romantic dinner cruise. After their meal dockside the couple were taken out in a stunning gondola along the canals in Newport beach, with a message in a bottle waiting and a ring in his pocket the scene was set for this amazing proposal.

Dion wanted to incorporate the place they had their first date 30 years ago and the Gondola was the perfect setting for this anniversary!

With the amazing help from our friends at Gondola Adventures  Dion and Petra went for a gorgeous cruise around Newport on this stunning gondola. Half way through the ride the gondolier dropped a bottle in the water with a note written from Dion. After the couple arrived back at the dock the surprises did not stop their! Our photographer who had captured this whole ride then went with them to the same restaurant that Dion had proposed to Petra 29 years ago!

Gentlemen, take note, this is how you keep an amazing marriage for over 29 years!

Joel wanted the perfect setting for the biggest question he was going to ask Katy.

Los Angeles, Los Angeles, the city of angels and, apparently, incredibly romantic, well-thought-out proposals!

“The house is her Great Grandfather house. She spent her summers there and has always dreamed about living there. It’s one of her favorite homes and places to be in the world. She loves the west coast. It’s just a very meaningful place to her and it was a really big deal to have her share it with me. It seemed perfect. ” Joel.

Joel went to great lengths to coordinate with Katy’s family to arrange this proposal. Apparently Katy was incredibly attached to her Great Grandfather’s house and had many happy memories of the times she had spent there. Knowing this, Joel thought that this would be the perfect place to propose to Katy and a way for them to make Joel part of those happy memories too.

Gentlemen, take note, your proposal is not about your big idea, its all about the moment she has been dreaming of for years!

It seems everyday we are getting more and more glamorous and over the top proposals being posted to YouTube and on news channel.Is this trend the way forward or are we loosing touch with the basics and the gesture of dropping to one knee and making the proposal speak for itself?

Is bigger better?

Some would argue that with YouTube, Vimeo and Facebook the bigger the proposal the better and it shows your fiancée that you really thought it through and wanted it to be the biggest and best proposal ever seen! This does not have to be the case. Knowing your fiancée and having the little touches that mean a lot to her will speak volumes and will never be expressed in a dance move by a flash mob, unless that is her thing! There does seem to be more and more of an expectation with diamond sizes and proposals that bigger is better, this is not always the case. The MOST important part of any of these decisions, whether it’s the ring or the proposal is knowing your fiancée and what will make her the happiest girl on earth when it happens.

The proposal should be everything she has ever dreamt of, not what you think is cool!

The answer should be fairly obvious to you, if she is one that shy’s away from public displays and does not like to be in the limelight, then a flash mob in a public place is probably not the best idea. That said, if you go for the less dramatic it does not mean that a few careful, well thought out ideas won’t go unnoticed! Little things can make all the difference. If she is very family oriented then make sure they are close by or waiting in a nearby restaurant or bar so you can then have your moment just the two of you but then surprising her with family there to help you celebrate. Also remember that after your engagement, you will want to call all your family if they are not near by, make sure you plan all of these little things so that it flows perfectly on the day.

Make sure that when you decide to propose its the most intimate and romantic proposal that is suited to both of you, don’t be pressured by social expectations to do a big over the top proposal when it’s the gesture and the fact you are asking your partner to spend the rest of your lives together. That statement there should do all the talking.

Elaborate proposals do not have to cost lots of money.

If your thinking of doing a little extra and making your proposal a little more elaborate it does not have to cost you an arm and leg!

The leap year engagement tradition

Although there is no longer a stigma about women proposing to men, it is still not very common and that’s why the 29th of February on a leap year is such a magical day. Who needs a better excuse? If you’re sure that the time is right then why not pop the question and take advantage?

It is believed this tradition was started in 5th century Ireland when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about women having to wait for so long for a man to propose. According to legend, St. Patrick said the yearning females could propose on this one day in February during the leap year.

Advice on asking a man to marry you

• Sit down and talk about it first so that you can gauge what the outcome will be.
• Don’t steal his thunder! If he’s planning to pop the question then he may not appreciate you getting there first.
• A ring is really not appropriate for most men however you can look into bands or other kinds of ring that he can wear on other fingers.

Some great proposal events and venues to consider

• If your man is a massive sports fan, why not combine the two!? If your in Chicago you have an ice hockey game that could be the perfect backdrop to your unique proposal! With the Blackhawkes vs Maple Leafs
• In Philadelphia enjoy your favorite basketball team play and you could be the half time entertainment! With the 76er playing Oklahomer why not propose on the big screen
• With Madison Square Gardens one of the greatest sporting venues why not propose as the Nicks take on Cleveland!
• With the mad rush from Valentines over why not pick a great restaurant you have always wanted to visit and make it that romantic evening you have always dreamed of!
• Or just keep it simple and spontaneous! Bundled up in warm clothes strolling though your favorite park is also a great time to turn the everyday into the the most romantic day of your lives so far.

Are you looking to pull off a surprise marriage proposal?  Do you need some tips on how to do it perfectly?  The Heart Bandits are the only husband & wife, male & female team of Proposal Planners and they provide a unique perspective that helps you get the best possible romantic, personal, and memorable proposal possible.  Here are some great tips to make your marriage proposal a complete surprise:

Use Help

If you can get friends or family, especially her friends or family, to help out in the proposal, then you will have a much higher likelihood of surprising her.  The reason is that though you may be acting differently, the fact that there are others that she trusts involved, it will make it much more likely that she’ll buy into whatever proposal plan you have put together.  Getting help from The Heart Bandits is also a great way to surprise her because all of our proposals have been surprises and we have coached the guy throughout the process so that it goes off without a hitch.  We have even acted as bystanders in some proposals to pull off the surprise.

Have a Plan and Create a Back-Story

You absolutely MUST have a solid plan when you propose.  You should know what’s going to happen throughout the process and what to do in case things do not go exactly as planned (such as rain or snow).  But to make your proposal a complete surprise, you need to have a realistic back-story.  The reason is because it eliminates any uncharacteristic behaviors from you the day-of.  For example, if she knows that you don’t like a certain part of town, it would be very odd if you “ask” her to go to that part of town for your proposal spontaneously.  If you create a back-story a few days before as to why you need to go there, then it will be much more believable.  Whatever the back-story is, you have to be careful that it is not be too out-of-character or too extravagant.

Photograph or Videotape it Discreetly

Pap The Question is a great resource for this.  Capturing your proposal on film or video is something that will go a long way when you reminisce on your relationship in years to come.  That is why you need to have a photographer or videographer that is very knowledgeable in being discreet.  You just cannot have someone in your face during the proposal.  You need someone to not be seen or acting as if they’re part of the scene in order to pull off the ultimate surprise.

Try to Relax

When you propose marriage, let alone have an elaborate plan for your proposal, chances are your nerves may come into play.  You may be worried about a lot of circumstances out of your control and it may throw off how you act around your girl.  The biggest thing to remember in this situation is you must try to relax.   You are there to propose marriage to your sweetheart that you love, not to win the World Series Game 7.  Even if something not-to-plan happens, it will actually be a funny part of your engagement and will make your proposal story more endearing.  So relax, enjoy your moment, and most importantly, be happy that you arrived at this day in your relationship and will take the next step.
