DC Proposal Photography| Adam and Rachel

Adam and Rachel met volunteering at a youth group event on October 24^th, 2014. He had just moved to Washington D.C. and Rachel was telling him about different ways to meet friends in the city… Little did Adam know he had just met his soon-to-be best friend.
Rachel was drawn to how warm and open Adam was. “He was so easy to talk to; the first day we met we talked for 4 hours!” Adam loved how she was a ball of energy and always had a smile on her face.
Rachel knew Adam was the one because of football Sundays. He is a huge Eagles fan and she is a big Redskins fan, so their relationship could have ended right there. Instead, they would spend almost every Sunday watching football for hours. Those were the days Rachel realized how relaxed and happy she was with him and that she could spend every Sunday with him for the rest of her life.
Adam decided to propose the day after his birthday because Rachel wouldn’t expect it. He chose to do it at Gravelly Point because it was near the airport where she was picking him up and wouldn’t make her suspicious that anything was going on. “It is such a beautiful spot with views of the planes taking off, as well as landmarks in DC like the Washington Monument that we have visited together.”

DC Proposal Photography| Kelley and Erin

Erin and Kelley actually met online. The first time they met in person Erin was so nervous that the first thing she said upon seeing Kelley was “Hi, I’ve been drinking wine.” Her second sentence was “Shut up, go home!” Kelley had come bearing flowers and that was something Erin wasn’t used to.
Kelley purchased the perfect ring for Erin from Robbins Diamonds in Newark.
What initially attracted Erin and Kelley to each other was their mutual sense of humor.

Though Kelley can’t pinpoint a specific moment in time when she knew exactly Erin was the one, for them it was a culmination of moments. It was over the course of the 4.5 years they spent together, building a life together, making memories and sharing moments. Regardless if the day was bad or good, Kelley knew she needed Erin to be there for all the future moments to come.

Kelley chose to propose in D.C. because it has always been one of their favorite cities and where they have shared some of their fondest memories.

Our photographer joined the couple for an hour, capturing moments that won’t soon be forgotten.
Our professional photographer took over one hundred photos, leaving Brent and his new fiancée with a full gallery to choose from for engagement announcements.
No perfect post-proposal shoot is complete without a close up of the ring.

He swept her into his arms as she joyfully accepted. Taylor proposed on his birthday, because he couldn’t think of a better gift than her as his fiancé!

Sealed with a kiss! Our sneaky snapper caught every incredible moment of their marriage proposal, including this adorable snapshot captured just seconds after she said, “Yes!”
After the initial shock wore off, Mark revealed another surprise: he had planned to have their entire engagement secretly photographed! He pointed out our sneaky snapper, who joined them for a post-proposal engagement session.
The couple share a sweet moment on the steps of the Lincoln. Mark knew he wanted to propose in downtown D.C. After running through a few ideas with one of our proposal experts, he decided that the Lincoln Memorial would be the picture-perfect place for the big ask!

DC Surprise Proposal Photography: Karah and Allison

This incredible Washington DC same-sex surprise proposal had us tearing up! DC couple Karah and Allison had no idea that they were both simultaneously planning a surprise marriage proposal.

The Marriage Proposal

After a romantic stroll through the gardens at Mount Vernon, Karah, Allison, and their chocolate lab reached a peaceful gazebo overlooking the Potomac River. Sarah casually told her to check their pup’s collar, where Allison found a sweet proposal note.

She joyfully accepted and with tears of happiness in her eyes, she pulled a sparkling engagement ring from her own pocket, and proposed right back!

Our sneaky snapper caught the moment they realized they both had unknowingly planned a surprise proposal for the very same day!

After the couple shared a happy, tearful embrace, Karah revealed that she had planned to have it all captured with hidden proposal photography, and our paparazzi proposal photographer joined them for a gorgeous engagement session.

But let’s rewind. How did Karah plan and pull off her dream engagement?

The Surprise Proposal Plan

Karah reached out to us to help her put together a picture perfect secret engagement for her marriage proposal to Allison. She wanted to make sure it was all captured with beautiful surprise engagement photos, and that their pup was able to help her pop the question. After running through a few ideas with our proposal experts, she decided Mount Vernon was the perfect place to propose. Allison and Karah frequently take day trips to the park to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and they shared many happy memories here. Its outdoor gardens were dog-friendly and picture perfect for proposal photography and post-engagement couples portraits!

Karah and Allison’s DC Surprise Proposal

Karah reached out to Paparazzi Proposals to finalize her proposal plans, and to ensure that the entire engagement was discreetly captured with professional photography. After chatting with one of our proposal experts, she selected the Wharf at Mount Vernon as the perfect place to pop the question. The couple lives in nearby and sometimes goes on day trips to walk through the gardens with their pup!
The pair share a romantic post-proposal moment! It turns out Karah wasn’t the only one with a surprise in mind for that day. Right after Karah popped the question, Allison did the cutest thing: she pulled a stunning engagement ring from her own pocket, and proposed right back!
Both gorgeous engagement rings! Unbeknownst to each other, both Karah and Allison purchased their rings separately with plans to propose on the same day.
Our sneaky snapper caught the whole engagement without intruding in on their special moment, joining them afterwards for a post-proposal portrait session!
The pair couldn’t stop smiling as our photographer snapped away! We helped Karah choose a dog-friendly proposal location, so that their adorable chocolate lab could join in the engagement photos!

D.C. Marriage Proposal: Scott and Carolyn’s Engagement

When Scott initially asked Carolyn to be his girlfriend, they were at a Zac Brown Band concert. For their proposal, Scott had a guitarist playing Zac Brown Band’s Whatever It Is as they approached the DC War Memorial and he got down on one knee.

Following the proposal, Scott surprised Carolyn by taking her to their favorite restaurant in Old Town Alexandria. Scott managed to have Carolyn’s parents in town from NJ and her sisters in town from NY and Chicago to surprise her along with friends and coworkers.

Every romantic marriage proposal has an incredible beginning, and Scott and Carolyn shared theirs with us! But before you read up on their sweet romance, browse our ultimate guide to proposing in DC for inspiration!

How They Met:

Scott and Carolyn met at work. Carolyn graduated nursing school in May 2012 and moved to the DC area in July to start working at the Washington Regional Transplant Community. Scott had been working at WRTC for three years prior. The two had an instant conversation starter with such similar last names!

On Carolyn’s first day at work, she carried around her black monogrammed backpack all day and seemingly never put it down. Scott jokes he started dating Carolyn as he was destined to find out what was in that backpack she never took off!

As soon as they started chatting, Scott was instantly attracted to Carolyn’s passion for her family and her career.

Initially, Carolyn was hesitant to date anyone at work so she dismissed Scott’s offers to help her change her headlight. Despite her stubborn personality, Carolyn eventually gave in to Scott’s offers and Scott took her to the Hyundai dealership to get her car fixed after work one afternoon. While her car was being repaired, they went to Top Golf in Alexandria, VA (they still debate who won). Carolyn couldn’t deny Scott’s genuine kind and caring personality, which was unlike anyone she’s ever met.

How They Knew:

Carolyn knew Scott was the one when he drove from DC to NJ three times in a week when Carolyn had back surgery. Since they always loved to hold hands when they were together, on one of the trips during that week, Scott left Carolyn a note which had the outline of his hand traced and inside his tracing Scott wrote, “If you miss me, you can always hold my hand.” Carolyn still carries this note with her in her wallet, almost three years later.

The adorable note that Scott gave to Carolyn when she had to travel for surgery. She still carries it around to this day!Scott knew Carolyn was the one when he dropped her off at Union Station to take a train home to NJ for Thanksgiving and she began to cry as they said their goodbyes.

The Ring:

The ring is made up of 3 diamonds- the largest diamond belonged to Scott’s great grandmother and the two diamonds on either side of the center diamond were his grandmother’s.

Scott had previously made the diamond from his mom’s engagement ring (she passed away of breast cancer when Scott was in high school) into a necklace which Carolyn received for their second anniversary.

Scott worked with King’s Jewelry in Old Town Alexandria, VA to make the necklace so he used them as well to design a setting for the ring.

The Proposal:

When Scott decided he wanted to propose, he knew it had to have something to do with where their love story began. Scott knew Scott grew up between Long Island, NY and suburban Maryland and Carolyn grew up in a small New Jersey beach town.

Scott always knew Carolyn dreamed of a wedding at the Jersey shore so he figured the proposal should revolve around their ties to the District. Scott chose the DC War Memorial monument hoping it would be a quieter, more romantic setting compared to the more frequented monuments.

And when it came to planning, he turned to Paparazzi Proposals of course! Scott spent weeks interviewing photographers for the special day but couldn’t find any who was not already booked for a wedding on that night. Loosing hope that he would be able to find a photographer for his big plans, Scott saw the Shark Tank episode featuring Paparazzi Proposals and Paparazzi Proposals took it from there! (Ironically, one of Carolyn and Scott’s favorite shows is Shark Tank!)

And Paparazzi Proposals help him plan and capture that picture-perfect proposal moment! We took the stress out of his gorgeous and thoughtful D.C. marriage proposal by handling all the logistics– coordinating everything from the musician to the two dozen red roses that Scott handed Carolyn after he popped the question!
